i.

There is a little girl with malaria.

‘Mama, why do those men
in white make medicine and guns?

        Where is brother?

                 Will I die?’

        Morning dew graces
              her feverish forehead.

‘Mama, if I were a flower, I would
embrace the sun and kiss the bees.’

ii.

There is a little boy with a gun.

‘Sorry mister, I’ve got to shoot you.
                          If I don’t, they’ll kill
                  my mama and my baby
               sister.  I’ve come to hate
               these hands. I apologize,
            and hope you understand.’

iii.

Flies buzz about the wilting
         neck of a gazanium,
    indifferent to the smoldering
                        skies and towns,
       as a bang whimpers below
       the glowing moon.

Love it, except I'm not really sure about the second stanza. "I’ve come to hate these hands." is gorgeous, though.

She's a little obscure, compared to Elliot or Hemmingway Plath or Frost... modern, sadly died in 1998, I think... from breast cancer. Amazing poet, though. If you get a chance look her up. She is one of my favorites. Passionate, political/social conscious...

I very much like ii. It makes me...something.

Berry nice; I like the new topic.

As always, I enjoy reading your entries immensely. This poem (parts i, ii, iii) brings back memories and stories I've heard, felt, and shared. Heh, and earlier today, my Government class was watching Band of Brothers. This somewhat reminds me of it. Just a little.

Nicely-written. A definite :+fav:
